Q: What is the “Tax Holiday”?

A: Recently, the Federal Government Announced a “Two-Month GST/HST Holiday” that allows for certain goods to be sold tax-free between December 14th, 2024 and February 15th 2025. 

Q: What do I need to do to qualify for the tax exemptions on my purchases?

A: Shoppers do not need to do anything to get the tax break; there is no claims process. The GST or HST will be not be charged at the time of purchase on applicable items, and only added to items that do not qualify under the approved government guidelines.

Q: Who decides what is taxed and what is not?

 A: In order for an item to be sold tax-free, it must be classified under the approved list as set out by the Federal Government as an approved product to be exempted.  The Federal Government decides this. We have contacted the tax  rulings department for clarification on many items to ensure compliance.

Q: What if I am ordering online and having an item shipped? Can I still get the exemption?

 A:  Yes, the tax exemption will apply to products sold online that are eligible. Applicable taxes in your province or territory will be applied.

Q: How does shipping time or location affect the exemption?

 A: The item(s) must be paid for in full and delivered before the end of the tax break period (Feb 15^th 2025).  The federal government says that items will be considered delivered once they are transferred from a supplier to a shipping service, or when they are put in the mail, rather than when they arrive at their destination.  When shipping to a Province with Provincial Sales Tax that is not part of HST Tax program, then we will charge the appropriate Provincial Sales Tax.
