Budget Brews: Mono-Black Eldrazi

Reality461

Hello all and welcome to this weeks Budget Brews! Winning is nice, but it isn't our main goal here at Budget Brews, instead we just try and have some fun! We tackle a few different ways to build here at Budget Brews, we either look at trying to make the more competitive decks cheaper on the wallet, or we just come up with something new that's easy on the wallet!

This week we're jumping out of the eternal daze and landing feet first into the most popular format: Standard. When it comes to brewing Standard decks, I don't really bother with looking at the rules or the meta since it changes so often you never know what's going to be good. So, I figured I'd go with something that's always going to be reasonably good: The Eldrazi Horde!

That's right, it's a Mono-Black Eldrazi control brew that controls the hand, the field and then packs a one-two-punch to take you to the finals (well, hopefully).

All told the deck should you run right around $100CAD if you purchase it right through WizardTower.com, or about $75CAD in TIX if you're looking for something to play online.

Some of the things we have to skimp out on are Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet which would would be nothing short of a beast in a deck that has this much spot removal, or Ob Nixilis Reignited for some card advantage and removal if you need him to play that role.

The deck also seems like it's weak to fast creature decks like the Human decks running around, at least post board we have Flaying Tendrils but with their anthem effects I think a Languish or two would work out either in the main or the board.

The game plan for this deck is the same as it is with any mono-black control deck, you control their hand and deal with any of the creatures they're able to pop out. Don't miss your land drops and then drop some Eldrazis to smash their Reality and end the game.

It's an old strategy sir, but it checks out. It's tried and true and promises to win games.

Pick the Brain and Thought-Knot Seer provide processing fuel for the amazing card Wasteland Strangler that gives you a body on the ground and acts as a removal spell. It's not Siege Helix ( Siege Rhino ) but it still does help.

Overall I think the deck is fun, plays like a classic black control deck and can be a contender in your FNM's, and if you remember that this layout is the floor and if you upgrade a few things here or there the deck can only get better!

Thanks for joining me while I untap the multiverse, and I look forward to brewing up something for next week!
