Hello all and welcome to this weeks Budget Brews! Winning is nice, but it isn't our main goal here at Budget Brews, instead we just try and have some fun! We tackle a few different ways to build here at Budget Brews, we either look at trying to make the more competitive decks cheaper on the wallet, or we just come up with something new that's easy on the wallet!
Alright, alright it's been a few weeks since I've done anything with Standard and with Eldritch Moon released and officially out in the format this today, let's take a crack at the format!
This week, I want to take a look at one of the hot new archetypes Eldritch Moon may very well be making viable in a competitive environment. The best part about this deck is that it's naturally pretty cheap to build.
This archetype is probably the one I'm most excited to play in this new Standard format, and I'll probably be running it at my LGS.
All told the deck is going to run you about $150CAN if you buy it at WizardTower.com, or if you're looking to do some Leagues it's only about 15TIX on MTGO.
If I was going to upgrade the list I'd swap out the Evolving Wilds with some Prairie Streams and if you're playing white you're playing it wrong if you don't have Archangel Avacyn and Declaration in Stone somewhere in the 75, but without sitting there and looking at all the cards laid in front of me, I'm not sure what I'd swap them out for.
The deck reeks of U/B Faerie lists of old, minus the Bitterblossom. The synergy between the spirits and the ETB effects are nothing, but advantage for you while you're able to snowball those small advantages and take over the game.
Keeping pressure on your opponent with some cheap permission also harkens me back to my favourite blue one drop Delver of Secrets and his blue based tempo strategies. I'm willing to bet that U/W Spirits is going to be the aggro/tempo strategy of the format and may even take over for Bant CoCo once Collected Company finally rotates out.
Oh, look... it's a two-fer!
That's right all you red mages, your wait is over. It seems like Mono-Red can be had once again. With a quick curve, the Pyromaster herself, and a slew of burn spells to back them up it seems like White might not be the aggro deck on the block anymore.
This deck is only going to run you around $100 at WizardTower.com, or about 25TIX if you want to grind some leagues.
Both of these decks seem pretty sweet to sleeve up if you're looking to play Standard on a budget and wanna head out to the Standard FNM to just have some fun playing some good ol' Magic!
Thanks for joining me while I untap the multiverse, and I look forward to brewing up something for next week!
