Hello all and welcome to this weeks Budget Brews! Winning is nice, but it isn't our main goal here at Budget Brews, instead we just try and have some fun! We tackle a few different ways to build here at Budget Brews, we either look at trying to make the more competitive decks cheaper on the wallet, or we just come up with something new that's easy on the wallet!
This week we're going back to Modern and looking at playing something I've always kind of wanted to sleeve up. I went on a tear with elves for awhile and have been wanting to do a write up on the colour I give the least amount of love to, but I couldn't really find or come up with a budget elves list that would be decent to play. Without the combo finish, it just isn't an elf deck. Instead I went the bigger stompy route.
All told the deck costs right around $130CAD if you pick up all the pieces right at WizardTower.com and if you're looking for something online it's right around 76TIX.
How to make the deck better? Well, you really can't, actually. This is the best the Mono-Green Stompy is going to get. Lot's of devotion, lots of mana, lots of hard to deal with creatures that smash face. It really should be every green mages dream deck.
I've faced the deck a few times online in the past and have always been slightly frustrated by it. The games the deck was able to win, it did so with ease. It packs natural hate with Dryad Militant and Scavenging Ooze so our opponent's graveyards are worthless.
Our game plan is quite simple: try to curve out and land creatures each turn. Turn the creatures sideways. Smash face.
That's really all there is to it.
What are we going to be weak to?
Well, looking at it I'd say we're going to be weak to combo, we have no interaction. Things that fly can also give us a bit of a trouble and it comes down to a race.
We are pretty good at dealing with simple removal spells however. With a bunch of our creatures having things like undying and then Vines of Vastwood.
Our Sideboard helps us shore up matches versus things like Affinity, Burn, and Control. Blue based control decks know how back breaking a well timed Choke can be.
Overall through my testing the deck can be pretty fun to play, especially if you're into a creature based aggro deck. If you don't like to creatures that much, or you're looking to win with more of a flourish then the deck probably isn't for you.
Thanks for joining me while I untap the multiverse, and I look forward to brewing up something for next week!
