Introducing, Modern Elbrus Bears! When Stoneforge Mystic got unbanned, there was a mad dash to find the best deck around to put it in. It looks an awful lot like you would expect a standard Hatebears list to look. Batterskull and Sword of Fire and Ice are Stoneforge targets and we have usual suspects in the form of Thalia, Guardian of Thraben as well as Leonin Arbiter to combo with our Ghost Quarters, Field of Ruin, and Path to Exile. But we have a surprise visitor in the form of Elbrus, the Binding Blade. As it turns out, Elbrus, while being prohibitively expensive to cast, is so cheap to equip that we can relatively easily get a 13/13 on turn three with Flying, Trample, and Intimidate no less! I promise there is nothing quite as satisfying as watching the Withengar trigger go on the stack as your opponent scoops it up.
Elbrus Bears also got a new addition to its arsenal when Zendikar Rising dropped. Skyclave Apparition is an absolute powerhouse in this deck, and honestly may have been just what this deck needed to bump its power level up. Being able to answer any problem permanent with a card that I am happy to put in my main deck is always an exciting prospect, and Skyclave Apparition has certainly been pulling its weight.
Check out the video to see how many permanents it can exile, and get a few laughs in at just how many times I can accidentally play a Stoneforge Mystic into my own Leonin Arbiter in a single league!
