Welcome all to the Getting Ready for Throne of Eldraine series! Today I’m going to be continuing a 7-part series on what current Standard cards from the four non-rotating sets (Guild of Ravnica, Ravnica Allegiance, War of the Spark, and Core Set 2020) will see more or less play.
If you missed my talk on post-rotation cards from other colours you can find that right here:

Blue - Looking at post-rotation Blue cards
Black - Looking at post-rotation Black cards

Multicolour Part 1 - Looking at post-rotation Multicolour Cards – Part 1
Multicolour Part 2 - Looking at post-rotation Multicolour Cards – Part 2
I’ll be dividing some key cards from each color into three categories:
- Moving on Up
- Staying Level
- On the Decline
Today I’m going to be talking about Artifact and Land cards. So let’s see how they stack up once Throne of Eldraine comes into Standard in October.
On the Decline
Gate Colossus – With new toys and fun coming in Throne of Eldraine, it is unlikely that players will head back to a Gates Matters deck. Therefore this Construct will probably be left behind.
Icon of Ancestry – With decks like Vampires and Dinosaurs leaving the format, it looks like Tribal decks will be a thing of the past, along with this card.
Lotus Field – With Blood Sun rotating out, it makes it harder to take advantage of this mana producing land. Therefore this card should drop off unless something gets printed to help it out.
Staying Level
Golos, Tireless Pilgrim – I think that this is one of the best ways to be able to play multiple colours thanks to its land fetching ability. There are less choices for land cards, but this will help you smooth out your mana for the late game.
Blast Zone – I see this continuing to be used in all sorts of decks. With decks perhaps moving towards 1 of 2 colours, it will make it easier to have this mini-sweeper in your deck.
Field of the Dead – Although there are many lands being rotated out from the current Field of the Dead decks, I believe that there will be enough replacements and existing lands that could replace them.
Interplanar Beacon – With War of the Spark still in rotation, there is still bound to be some planeswalker decks sticking around, therefore this land is needed to help fix your mana and gain you some life.
Temple of Epiphany – (And all other Scry lands) There is a good chance we could see the other Scry lands printed at some point in the next year. I'm sure that these lands will still see play to help those greedy manabases.
Moving on Up
Chromatic Lantern – With the manabase getting significantly weakened for 3 or 4-colour decks, this could be what is needed to make sure you are hitting the colours of mana you need.
Blood Crypt – (And any other shockland) – With many dual lands rotating out of the format, the shocklands will become even more necessary as a four of in almost every deck you play.
Cryptic Caves – I can see this land starting to get played more with post-rotation games going longer and longer. Late game card advantage could give you the edge.
I do hope that some artifacts see more play in standard. There are some nice cards that could be played in multiple decks. Thanks again for reading the Getting Ready for Throne of Eldraine series. I hope you have enjoyed this 7-Part series! Hopefully it gives you insight into what existing Standard cards will start to see some more play.
