Welcome all to the Daily Dose of Kamigawa Neon Dynasty. Today I’ll be talking about the return of one of my favourite card types: Sagas. Sagas make a return in Neon Dynasty, this time transforming into creatures! The power of the creature you transform into will vary depending on the Saga, but what a wonderful way to get lasting value out of an enchantment that usually goes away after Chapter III. One of the wonderful things is that these Sagas all transform into enchantment creatures which can be beneficial for many deck strategies.
The first Saga I want to talk about today can provide some major card advantage. Here is Behold the Unspeakable.
Behold the Unspeakable // Vision of the Unspeakable
Let’s break down the three parts of this card:
Chapter I: This first ability will provide you with a buffer against most attacks for a turn, which is nice as you will take a turn off by playing Behold the Unspeakable.
Chapter II: After you’ve had that extra turn to help stabilize, Chapter II will help you at least draw three cards. To be able to draw four extra cards you'll have to have zero cards in your hand at the start of your turn. Even if you don’t get four extra cards, you'll get to scry 2 before drawing your two bonus cards.
Chapter III: After all this value you'll end up with a flying trampling creature that gets larger for each card in your hand. I really like the flying keyword on this creature as it can help you potentially have a threat with evasion late in the game to help you win quickly.
Next up is a Saga that will help you hit your land drops. Here is Boseiju Reaches Skyward.
Boseiju Reaches Skyward // Branch of Boseiju
Let’s break down the three parts of this card:
Chapter I: Card advantage is card advantage and even though this advantage comes in the form of basic Forests, it is still two additional cards in your hand.
Chapter II: With the legendary Channel lands in the set, this ability will allow you to bring some key lands back from your graveyard. This allows you to either reuse them as lands or once again discard them for their Channel ability.
Chapter III: Like Behold the Unspeakable, you are left with a creature that will continue to grow for each land you play. Giving it reach helps you block flying threats and adds some value to this creature.
The final Saga I’ll talk about today is one of the most powerful. Here is The Kami War.
The Kami War // O-Kagachi Made Manifest
Let’s break down the three parts of this card:
Chapter I: This is an expensive Saga to cast at six mana, but it starts off with an amazing ability allowing you to exile any nonland permanent on the battlefield. This ability should not be overlooked, even at its expensive initial cost.
Chapter II: This ability provides you with another tempo advantage but can also be used to instead bounce your own permanent if you can find some value in that. No matter which bouncing option you choose, your opponent will still discard a card.
Chapter III: This is the most powerful creature that you can transform a Saga into. It starts off as a 6/6 flying, trample creature, which is a viable and powerful threat. The biggest value comes from attacking which forces your opponent to return a card from your graveyard to your hand.
There you have it folks, the return of Sagas with a present of a creature after you unwrap it. Thanks again for reading the Daily Dose of Kamigawa Neon Dynasty. Join me again next week as the new card analysis continues as we move forward into the future of Kamigawa.
