Welcome to preview week on the Daily Dose where we are preparing for some major draft action when it comes to the new Conspiracy: Take the Crown set coming out on August 26th. In the past couple of days, I’ve looked at the new mechanics coming in this set, but today I’m going to focus on the namesake of the set, the Conspiracy cards. For those that need a refresher, Conspiracy cards are cards you draft like normal, but are not part of your normal deck. They act as advantages in the game that are in the command zone. Some start the game in the command zone, others are face down until something reveals them. Conspiracy cards are all colourless cards, but some this time around will definitely only be played with certain colours, but I’ll get to that a little later. First, I’m going to talk about one of the new Conspiracy cards that starts the game in the command zone. Here is Sovereign’s Realm.
Wow, what a great card to build your entire draft around! If I was to see this card in my first pack, I would definitely take it. This will allow you to play five colours and be able to draft any card you see for the rest of the draft. This goes back to Dragons of Tarkir drafts where people would be playing five colour Morph. It allowed you to draft a lot of Morph cards and then fill it out by drafting the best of the rest. Sovereign’s Realm allows you to just simply take the best card in the pack, over and over again, no matter what colour it is. This is normally a freedom you do not have in drafts. I look forward to seeing this in the first pack I open during release weekend drafts.
Now I’m going to be talking about Hidden Agenda Conspiracy cards that are face down in the command zone until you choose to reveal them. This time around they have basically given a common Hidden Agenda that works very well if you are playing a certain colour. Let’s take a look at Hired Heist.
Hired Heist is very different than the Hidden Agenda cards we saw in the original Conspiracy set in that although it can be played in any deck, because of its activated ability involving a specific colour, in this case blue mana, it limits which decks you can actually take advantage of it in. With Hidden Agendas, it will be an advantage to draft multiple of the same creature as well, so that you can use it on more than just the one creature. If only there were some way to have more cards with the same name as the one you’ve chosen! [Hint: Keep reading, there is!]
Last, I’m going to be looking at an equipment card that works amazingly well with Hidden Agenda Conspiracy cards. Here is the brand new equipment, Spy Kit!
This is a very well designed equipment with its main power stemming not from the +1/+1 it gives, but in the fact that the equipped creature becomes all nonlegendary creature names. Well doesn’t that play well right into all of those Hidden Agenda cards that you’ve drafted. Now any time you equip the Spy Kit onto one of your creatures you will be able to take advantage of all the Hidden Agenda cards you have in the command zone. If you draft successfully, this could become one of the most powerful cards in the set. It will depend on how many more Conspiracy cards they print that will take advantage of this great equipment.
It is time for the reprint card of the day! Today, it is the card-drawing super card, Serum Visions!
Thanks to the bannings of many blue cantrip cards in Modern, Serum Visions has become the go-to cantrip for Modern players. Serum Visions will be a welcome addition for players who are looking to get their playset and have had some trouble getting those last couple ones.
Thanks for reading another fun preview edition of the Daily Dose of Conspiracy: Take the Crown. Tomorrow I’m going to take a look at some of the new Planeswalkers that are joining Conspiracy this time around, including one we’ve never seen before. See you tomorrow!
