Welcome to the continued excitement of the Daily Dose of Eldritch Moon! Yesterday we saw the return of the great Eldrazi, Emrakul, the Promised End. Emrakul was one of the worst kept secrets in Magic, but one I was still quite excited with, along with the return of many more Eldrazi. This led to me having more questions when it came to the Eldrazi. How many more will there be? How much of a presence will they have in Innistrad? Will they be able to stop the Madness!? I really enjoyed the design space provided with how colourless mana was used in the Battle for Zendikar block that I hope they continue this in Eldritch Moon.
Well, one of those questions has been answered thanks to a new preview card from Eldritch Moon. Let’s have a look at Coax from the Blind Eternities.
There have been a lot of wishes over the years, like Cunning Wish, Living Wish, and Burning Wish, but we haven’t seen one in quite a while since Glittering Wish in Planar Chaos. This is going to be able to lead to Eldrazi decks getting a lot better. Need to fetch some hand disruption? Then go grab Thought-Knot Seer. Are you in the late game and need a big threat? Well, why not search for Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger or even Emrakul, the Promised End? One of the key things to remember though is that if you are playing in a sanctioned tournament, you will only be able to search for cards that have either already been exiled during the course of the game, or in your sideboard. Another thing to note about how Coax from the Blind Eternities is different from previous Wish cards is that once you play the spell, it doesn’t get exiled. This could allow you to recast using the help of cards like Den Protector or Jace, Vryn’s Prodigy. Many are wondering if blue was the best choice for this card, but only time will tell what other cards will be coming in Eldritch Moon.
One of the biggest questions still left after Shadows Over Innistrad was, if there would be a Legendary Werewolf made. Well, we have another answer thanks to Ulrich of the Krallenhorde!
Now this can be a powerhouse of a Magic card. First off, whenever it enters the battlefield you are able to pump one of your creatures by +4/+4, making it have an immediate impact on the battlefield. Once Ulrich is on the battlefield it becomes even more of a threat. If your opponent plays a threat onto the battlefield when you have Ulrich out, you have the ability to not play any spells during your turn allowing Ulrich to transform and kill their creature. Once transformed, if they decide to play two spells to transform Ulrich back to Human form, you can either pump another creature, or have an 8/8 Ulrich to battle with. What makes this even better is how it works in conjunction with Geier Reach Bandit. If you have a transformed Geier Reach Bandit, you will have to have Ulrich enter the battlefield, give itself +4/+4, have it transform, and than fight another creature while having ten power.
Now that we have some answers to some of our questions, let me know what other questions you have when it comes to Eldritch Moon.
It looks like its going to be another amazing set once Eldritch Moon arrives to us in late July, and I can’t wait. Join me for the next Daily Dose where I’ll be talking more creatures, more spells, and lots more Eldritch Moon!
